Weekend Camp - Kandanga Country Club 24th - 26th May 2024

 Friday 24th May 2024

Arrived at Kandanga Country Club about 1pm ish,  Our friends Jon and Di are the only ones joining us again this weekend, which is such a shame because it's a great spot to stay.

When you arrive at the Country Club you need to go inside the club and sign in,  I have booked both times we have stayed here due to it's popularity.  So we did that, booked in and had a drink at the bar and a chat to the lovely lady behind the bar and the other lady doing something with the competition bowls that was happening.

Got our site number and proceeded to park and get set up in our unpowered site.

Camping at Kandandga Country Club:

Unpowered sites are $12 pn/per site.

Powered sites are $25 pn/per site.

There are showers and toilets available 24/7, showers are coin operated 3 x $1 coins.  There is a laundry available up the road, Rubbish bins are provided at the back of the club.  You are allowed a fire in a brazier but no open fires on the ground (fire restrictions permitting) Pet Friendly camp area, but unfortunately recent changes by council or insurance means that no dogs allowed at the club even in the outdoor area.  Free Barefoot bowls  with your camping and meals available from 6pm at the club.

About an hour later our friends arrived, signed in and set up next door.  The RV park at the club is very pleasant to stay at, well kept and you don't feel too cramped in.  You're surrounded by paddocks with cows, you have the old Mary Valley Rattler train line running behind the unpowered sites, which is not in use anymore.  Yes there are a few houses above the club but you look out toward the paddocks.

You also have the Kandanga Pub just up the hill from the Bowls Club.  We headed up to the Pub for dinner on Friday night, bought lots of raffle tickets and Jon won a meat tray on a redraw! We had a delicious dinner - my chicken parmy was almost the size of the plate (half of it came home and we had it for breakfast 😆)  Headed back to camp to sit around the campfire, while the boys sipped on some barrel port.

Today is the Imbil Food Festival, which is part of the reason we came this weekend.  So after a leisurely breakfast and tidy up, we headed to Imbil about 10am, it is only about 9Klms to Imbil.

Found a park and strolled to the festival, which is in the town centre in the park opposite the pub and also in the park over the road where the old train station and turntable is.

We've got food vans/stalls, produce stalls such as Imbil Homestead, Mary Valley Smallgoods, Amrita Park Meadery, Craft Beer stall, Dog Treats, more stalls with chtuneys, sauces, lemon butters, cooking demonstrations and heaps more.  It wasn't ridiculously big, but it was busy.  Good fun and also pet friendly.  If you didn't eat enough from the various food vans/stalls, there is always, Imbil Pub, Bakery and cafe you can get a feed at.  First time we've been to the festival which is part of the GourMay Mary Valley that runs from 1st May to 1st June.  There are many events which are spread across the Mary Valley region over the month.

Back to camp for some relaxing and perhaps a nap or two was taken.  Of course we have to go and have a barefoot bowl, be rude not too.  We wondered over around 4pm, got a drink and some bowls and got to it.  There is debate about who won the most games, depends on who you ask 😆

Barefoot bowls is a bit of fun, isn't it.  Dinner at the Country Club tonight and due to it starting to get a wee bit cool we opted for eating in the dining room.  There were a few diners tonight but not as many as last time we were here.  The meals are absolutely delicious.

Lamb Shank special with mash and veg for Craig and Beef Lasagne, chips and salad for me - YUM!

We headed home this morning, but I won't bore you with our journey home.
We stopped in at the Kenilworth Pub for some chicken wings, which we have to admit were not as good as the last time we went there.  At least this time we arrived home to fine weather and could unpack in the sunshine!
