Cape York - Saturday 10/9/11

The sun's just gotten up itself and Boris is ready for a wee walk.....  Craig's turn.  It would seem now that job is done, Boris is ready to come back to bed, first indication was him standing with his front feet on the steps up to the bed looking hopefully at Craig and myself.  Craig caved in and tossed him back up on the bed, so at least we all got to sleep for about another 1/2 hour or so, until it was time for Boris to play - sleep in finished!
Let the furry black thing loose on the world, he went straight up into the bush behind the camp, next thing we heard was Jim yelling at him.  Boris must have scented Jim up there (he was trying to have a quiet moment alone...) - turns out Boris was getting yelled at for eating some sort of poo again - Boris Poo Head we call him now - yuk!
Tide was right out his morning, so Craig went out on the rocks to try and find the lure he lost yesterday - guess what, he did.  Poo Head went along with him to help, having a swim in the rockpools and playing.
We had toasted Cheese & Bacon rolls for breakfast this morning (the ones we got from the Bamaga Bakery yesterday), very yummy.  Jim's call this morning was to move camp to North Vyrilya up past the wreck of the lightship (which was where we originally wanted to go, but were put off by a herd of blokes heading up that way), so that was today's destination - oh, a big 17klms journey, should be exhausting, hahaha.
Just as we were finishing breakfast off & starting to packup, a lone woman (looking rather worse for wear), stopped under the tree at the front of our camp.  Jim asked if she was okay & she started telling us all her story about sleeping up a tree last night down the beach further, because she saw crocs all around her.  The lady was on her own because she had a big argument with the people she was travelling with and she left/was asked to leave.  Not sure about her story, was a bit confusing/conflicting, she was quite upset about her overnight experience, crying etc., but did admit there may not have been any crocs surrounding her last night but just shadows.
We filled up her water bottle for her and Ev made her a cup of tea.  We think she was hoping for a lift, but as both of our cars are single cabs she was out of luck.  The boys did suggest asking at the next camp along the beach, to see if they could give her a lift out to the main road.  Jim also told her about the little creek on the track, if she had to start walking then at least she could cool off there.
Back to packing up after that interesting interval, which did give us some interesting discussion points while pulling up camp.
Tour leader Jim was out front this morning and took us out on a different track (we know what you're doing Jim - hoping not to run into someone at the little creek....), but guess what, the track took us across the creek in a different & easier spot, low and behold though there was our lone woman cooling off right there.....  We said hi & kept moving on to the area where we crossed the creek yesterday, so we could have a dip and cool off.  It was already 34 degrees at 10.30am!!  After our refreshing dip, we stopped at the lookout - spectacular view from South Vrilya and around north to Red Point.

Onward back around & down to Red Point, then onto the beach for the run up to the collasped remains of the wrecked lightship.

Beach run to North Vrylia
This wreck was washed up from a distant reef some years ago during a cyclone.  Found some lovely seashells around the wreck.

Bumped into some people whom we have crossed paths with before, they love Boris - Everybody loves Boris!!!  He is getting quite a fan club up here, maybe we should create a Facebook page for him and take photo's of him with all the poeple he meets on our trips??

North Vryila Camp
View from Camp
Another 2klms along the beach & we arrived at North Vrilya camp area at the mouth of Crystal Creek.  It's a very large area, with a fair few people camped throughout.  We stopped at a fairly empty area, the boys went for a walk to check the area and ended up chatting with a couple of people camped nearby.  The kings of camping decided on a flat area under the Sheoaks, with the Sheoak spindles as ground cover, so that should limit the sand going into everything.  While Jim was manuvouring under Ev's direction, Craig picked a spot and we got setup - it's funny watching Jim & Evelyne going back and forth with the car to find the "perfect" spot.  It's another beautiful camp spot.

By this stage of our travels there are a few phrases that have been established between us all - in good humor.
A.  When either of the boys are involved in some sort of activity, the other will ask "Can I give you a hand with that", tongue in cheek.
B.  When discussing car mods, recovery gear, stuff packed in the camper, you could possibly hear "you guys have everything", again tongue in cheek.
Depending on what is happening, we can all end up in a fit of giggles.

View from Camp - Boris & Jim on
Beach
Camp setup, Jim went off to have a fish (we hadn't noticed straight away, but Boris went along with him).  We saw Boris out on the beach swimming and playing in the sand and Jim was happy keeping an eye on him).
First lunch for boy, then he went out to try his luck fishing - again.  One hour later - boys zero, fish alot more then zero.  Then we got the stories, Craig "had a huge flathead follow my lure, but it didn't take it and then disappeared".... hmmm, sounding all too familiar really.  Back they went to try again for fish, this time heading around to the mouth of Crystal Creek.  The boys went for a walk up that way earlier and reckon they saw mudcrabs crawling around, so have taken one welding glove with them to try and catch mudcrabs as well. Hmmm........  They did tell us as they were leaving "we'll bring back fresh fish & mudcrabs for dinner", so we girls haven't got any meat out for dinner - could go hungry tonight!

Sunset at North Vryila

North Vryila Sunset
We girls have been having a relaxing afternoon, sitting around in the shade of the Sheoks, writing our journals, chatting and I finally got to shave my legs (you know you've let them grow to long when you can feel the wind blowing through the hairs - haha).  Boys returned empty handed, yet again, so out come the snags & rump for a Bar-B-Que dinner over the fire.  Sat & watched the beautiful sunset over the water and people bringing their tinnies out of the water.

Chatted to a neighbour bringing his tinnie past our camp, they didn't catch any fish either.
Fire going, bbq plate on - very nice evening.  Only problem, Boris is very unsettled tonight, keeps looking out toward the beach - quite unnerving really....  Early to bed tonight - 8.45pm.  Maximum temperature today reached 34 degrees.
