Cape York - Friday 26/8/11

Boris managed to wrangled his way up onto our bed in the early hours of this morning again - Craig is a softy.  7am wake up call this morning and bacon & egg rolls for breakfast.  Chatted again with Jim & Evelyne this morning, then Stork had a shower and we packed up.  On the road by 9.20am and it was already 29.5 degrees.  Going to Weipa today, undecided right now if we'll stay in Weipa or push further north.  112klms today into Weipa, roads are very rough and corrugated until we reached the Rio Tinto lease, then the roads got nice - as in they were graded, still dirt.  Arrived Weipa at 11.30am, so 2 hours to cover 112klms.  Decided to book into the Weipa Caravan Park for the night and check out whether to go to Pennefather River or further north to Mapoon & what alcohol restrictions applied to Pennefather.
We pulled into the campground and Jim & Evelyne's car was parked outside also, we walked into the office and Craig told the lady behind the counter that these people would be trouble - she answered with "I bet you will be the trouble" - funny, had to be there. Got an unpowered site overlooking the river, no site numbers just a grassed area you find a spot on - will be very pretty when the tide comes in, only one tide today we were told.  The neighbours from across the road came over  with some leftover steak for Boris and he stayed for a chat.  He and his wife are working in Weipa and living in their caravan at the park, so Craig had a chat to him about Pennefather & Mapoon.  Jim, our new fellow Travelander friend popper over and invited us for afternoon drinks & nibbles, he needs to get rid of his full strength too.  First job this arvo is shopping for eggs, dog bones & wine etc., then we'll do drinkies.
3pm - Boris & boy are having a nanna nap!  Jim mentioned they were doing the 2.30pm mine tour, so Craig went over to try and get on it, but was told it was full.  Strangely though Evelyne was telling us later that there was 4 empty seats on the bus......  never mind.  Went shopping when boy woke up, hmmm no Sav Blanc available in the box, oh well I'll have to buy some bottles of NZ Sav Blanc instead :)  The bottles are a fair bit over priced though.  Joined Jim & Evelyne for drinks about 5.30pm and before we knew it, it was 7pm again.  Time to go home for dinner.  Maximum temperature today when I checked earlier today was 34 degrees!!
